The
City Light crews maintain approximately 55 miles of electric
lines from the Wyeth Bench, about 7 miles east of town,
to approximately one mile west of Bridal Veil, Oregon.
The 'Southbank System' provides electrical services
to our customers in Multnomah County and is separate from
the 'City System' that provides electricity to the City
and area to the east. These two systems have separate
billing rates due to differences in operation and maintenance
costs.
Rates for electrical service are set by resolution and updated
as necessary by the City Council. Rates within each system
are designated by customer class, i.e. residential, commercial,
industrial, and public agency. Within the City system, rates
are also set for 'in-city' customers and 'rural' customers.
Electric utility customers pay per kilowatt hour (kwh)
consumption charges, plus a flat street light/meter
maintenance fee each month.
New customers to the system are required come in to
the City offices to apply for services. They must
provide photo identification and pay a refundable deposit
($300.00) and a non-refundable account set up charge
($30.00 in City and $40.00 out of City) before
service can be connected to an existing service location.
When a customer leaves the final bill is deducted from the
deposit and any balance is refunded.
Security lights are available to our customers at a small
monthly fee. Customers who are developing unimproved property
should call the City Light Superintendent for an estimate
on the connection of electrical service.
