The
Public Works Department provides water and sewer utility
services, and also maintains the property and streets belonging
to the City of Cascade Locks. The City's two wells pump
water that "tastes good straight from the tap"
-- something that not a lot of places can say anymore.
|
|
The
City built a new Sewer Treatment Plant in 1997 that is large
enough to serve substantial residential, commercial and industrial
growth. All new development is required to connect to the
City's sewer system. |
|
The
Public Works Department promotes beautification of the City
by sponsoring City-wide "Clean Ups" twice a year.
Spring Clean up is usually held around the end of April or
the first part of May, when several large dumpsters are brought
to the Sewer Treatment Plant yard and citizens are allowed
to bring truckloads of debris to dump for free. Also as a
part of Spring Clean-up, citizens are allowed to pile burnables
(wood, leaves, etc.) in front of their properties, which the
Public Works crews then pick up and take to the City's burn
pile. This event is to encourage citizens to clean up and
beautify the City in anticipation of our summer tourist season.
The Fall Clean-up is similar, but does not include a 'burnables'
pick up component. |
